The route of Bulgarian wine

 

 

 

Bulgaria is a country with traditional vine-growing. Here the wine route has been traced for centuries and the journey gives a clear idea of the traditional Bulgarian wine sorts, extremely interesting for professionals and connoisseurs of wine.

 

 

 

 

Day 1: Welcoming in Sofia. Accommodation. Breakfast. Drive to Melnik. Visit a renowned wine cellar to taste typical Melnik wines. Dinner. Overnight stay.

Day 2: After breakfast visit the Rozhen monastery. Drive to Plovdiv. Lunch. Explore the Old Town. Dinner. Overnight stay in Plovdiv.

Day 3: Breakfast. Drive to the village of Brestovitsa. Accommodation. Wine-tasting. Dinner in the “Todoroff” wine cellar. Overnight stay at „Todoroff Wine and Spa” hotel.

Day 4: Breakfast. Drive to Sliven. Visit the “Sinite Kamani” /”The Blue Rocks” wine cellar. Enjoy wine-tasting in the “House of Wine”. Dinner. Overnight stay.

Day 5: After breakfast your journey continues to Nessebar – one of the most picturesque towns on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Visit the “Ancient Nessebar” museum. Lunch. Drive to Varna. Dinner. Overnight stay.

Day 6: Breakfast. Varna sightseeing: the Cathedral, the Archaeological museum, the Roman thermae. Lunch. Free time. Dinner. Overnight stay in the town of Varna.

Day 7: Breakfast. Your tour continues with a visit to the “St. St. Helena and Constantine” monastery – the only one in Bulgaria, under the altar of which one can find “Ayazmoto” (a spring, declared sacred). The relics of St. Valentine are to be found in the museum. Enjoy wine-tasting in “Estreya” wine-cellar. Have a tour of “Golden Sands” and “Albena” resorts; then visit the palace of the Romanian queen in Balchik. Overnight stay.

Day 8: First variant: Breakfast. Drive to Osmar village – the village of wormwood wine and herbal wines. Osmar is one of the four most energetic spots in Bulgaria. Wine-tasting. Drive to Shumen. Dinner. Overnight stay in Shumen.

Second variant: After breakfast travel to Belogradets. Gather the grape harvest in a vine massif and enjoy winetasting.

Explore the ancient fortress of Ovech. Dinner. Overnight stay in Shumen.

Day 9: Breakfast. Drive to Veliko Tarnovo. Accommodation. Visit Tsarevets. Walk along “Samovodska charshiya” street. Lunch. Visit the “Lyaskovets” wine cellar. Dinner in a restaurant. Overnight stay.

Day 10: Breakfast. Drive to Sofia.
